Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel participated in the age-old tradition of worshiping cows today, marking the third day of the five-day Tihar festival. The ceremony, known as Gai Tihar, involves honoring the cow, symbolizing Laxmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity.

At a religious function held at the President House, Shital Niwas, the Head of State performed the customary rituals. President Paudel garlanded the sacred cow, offered fruits, and fed it various delicacies as part of the traditional festivities.

The cow holds significant reverence in Hindu culture, regarded as a symbol of motherhood from which humans receive nurturing care. The day, locally known as Gai Tihar, is a crucial aspect of Tihar, the second-largest festival celebrated by Nepali Hindus.
